A survey by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) and the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) shows that compliance departments may be benefiting from improving conditions after recent years strained many.
Budgets for HR compliance and related activities are reportedly up, which may help professionals cope with changing regulatory rules, but researchers also reported that staffing has not risen. The lack of personnel involved in compliance efforts may be placing additional stress on those who are in the field, and the report indicates that spending increases are being outpaced by higher workloads.
Rather than try to operate an hr management system under such stressful conditions and without sufficient manpowe, administrative and management personnel may find it advantageous to hire a firm for HR activities such as employee benefit services, thus making up for the lack.
The budgetary increases, while notable, are limited. Only 38 percent of respondents to the survey said their department had more funding in 2011, compared to 32 percent in 2010. One-third saw staff increase last year, and nearly the same number expect to experience staffing growth in 2012.
