In the face of rising health insurance costs and other pricey expenses, many small businesses are doing away with worksite benefits for some of their employees, according to CNNMoney.
Many HR management systems in smaller endeavors are focusing on hiring part-time workers in order to skip the cost of some employee benefits while staying productive, the source reports. While employee benefits are often a large incentive for new talent and a way to keep staff loyal, they may be falling by the wayside due to rising costs and a flailing economy.
While all employers have to offer social security and workers compensation to their staff, hiring part-time can help them to avoid health insurance and life insurance, according to the Small Business Association.
"Everyone's focus right now is controlling cost," business owner Jo Heinz told CNN Money.
As a result, part-time and contract workers may have a leg up when it comes to employment at present as they can provide quality work for much less, the source explains. Alternatively, those that focus their job search on worksite benefits may be making themselves less attractive to many hiring managers, the source explains.
