Many chief financial officers are expanding their responsibilities and immersing themselves in human resource management systems, according to a recent report by Robert Half Management Resources.
CFOs are in large part seeking ways to expand past the usual financial responsibilities of the role. Over one quarter – 27 percent – of those polled stated that they were becoming more involved in other elements of business. Of those surveyed, 19 percent stated they were focusing on their company’s human resource system, according to the source.
"Financial leaders are becoming more involved in all aspects of company operations, often to ensure greater financial controls across the enterprise and offer input on pricing, cost cutting and business restructuring," explained Paul McDonald of Robert Half Management Resources.
Those CFOs looking to getter a better idea on company-wide operating costs wold do well to become more well-rounded in other areas of their business, the source suggests. Because human resources deals with a broad set of business issues – from worksite benefits to employee retention – CFOs may get the broadest view of how a company really runs by shadowing HR representatives.
