The way employers communicate with workers about their employee benefits can have a strong impact on their satisfaction with those benefits.

Workers who have a positive open enrollment experience typically perceive a higher value in their benefit packages, Plan Sponsor reports. Employers and employees alike report only limited success in benefit communications, with a majority of each indicating that communications did not necessarily help people make good benefit decisions.

Employee benefit consulting services may be useful to help employers figure out not just what benefits to offer as part of their compensation, but also how to discuss them with workers. Among the things many workers may want is the ability to sign up for benefits and access information online for convenience, which could be a significant step toward improving the appeal of a benefits package. About 90 percent of workers who had that capability were pleased with the results, according to the news source.

While the benefits themselves remain important, research shows that poor communication can impede workers' ability to get the most out of their benefits. This may limit their satisfaction and detract from employee loyalty and productivity, negatively impacting employers.
