Employee benefits are very important to offer to workers so that they feel adequately compensated, but there is another less heralded component to this kind of offering. Employee loyalty is extremely important for organizations to maintain. If they fail to cultivate it properly, there is a good chance that the best workers will leave a company and the difficulty of recruiting new staff members will precipitously decline.

Consequently, employee benefits can be seen as gifts to workers when they most need them. While health insurance and 401(k) account management have largely financial components, other services are less economic in nature. For example, hardship leave can be seen as a compassionate offering the organizations make on behalf of employers that will make workers appreciate them quite a bit more.

When family members die or experience debilitating  illnesses or injuries, it may be difficult for personnel to continue working effectively. Moreover, they may be needed at home to care for their loved ones. A company should carefully decide what the limits of their kindness are, but some measure of hardship leave or paid time off might be an appropriate way to show appreciation for workers going through difficult times.
