The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently released some of the top HR compliance issues that businesses dealt with this past year.
Recently, Patrick Kapust, deputy director of OSHA's Directorate of Enforcement Programs, presented the top 10 workplace violations at the National Safety Council's "Celebration of the Century" event, which was held in Orlando, Florida.
At 7,250 violations, falls resulted in the largest number of safety citations, many of which could have been prevented had the proper protocols been put in place.
Other safety issues that resulted in a considerable number of violations included those related to hazard communication at 4,700, scaffolding at approximately 3,800, respiratory protection at 2,370 and ladders at 2,310.
Janet Froetscher, CEO and president of the NSC, indicated that even though business owners may be better informing their workers about how to stay safe, there's still plenty of room for improvement.
"While great progress has been made in safety over the past 100 years, today's presentation reminds us there is more to be done to make our workplaces safer," said Froetscher.
