Absenteeism is on the rise among many employees, an indication that businessowners may need to improve their HR management system.
According to a new survey conducted by the ADP Research Institute, employees calling out sick appears to be an issue for large and midsized companies, reporting a higher average annual rate of absenteeism of 3.5 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively. This has resulted not only in lost productivity but reduced profitability for more than half of midsized and large businesses. The survey defined midsize firms as those that had between 50 and 999 employees while large organizations were those that employed 1,000 workers or more.
Tim Clifford, president of talent management at the business solutions firm, said that employers aren't doing all they need to in order to control this problem.
"Although companies are aware of the resulting losses in productivity, many are unwilling or unable to take explicit steps to control absenteeism," said Clifford. "As employers move toward automation of human capital management, we see a clear need for the effective integration of Total Absence Management programs with existing payroll and HR platforms."
