The results of a new survey may serve as a clarion call for business owners to put a greater focus on camaraderie and how to best foster a positive attitude.
According to a recent study conducted by workplace expert Michelle McQuaid, only 36 percent of Americans are happy with their current job. Of these, more than six in 10 said they would be happier if they had a better boss, while 35 percent said an increase in pay would make them happier.
McQuaid, who's also an author and specializes in psychology, said that employees' mindsets and overall sentiment can have a significant impact on business owners' bottom lines.
"This current situation in the workplace is taking an incredible personal toll on employees and for organizations," said McQuaid. "It is costing $360 billion a year in lost productivity."
Business owners may want to consider starting a better HR management system so employees can make their grievances known. This may lead to an improved work atmosphere, so long as these issues are addressed adequately.
