Playing hooky appears to be something many workers admit to doing at least once since entering the working world.
According to a recent poll conducted by internet job search engine CareerBuilder, nearly one-third of employees say they have called out sick to work when in reality their health was just fine.
Interestingly, the frequency of employees calling out sick often depended on the time of year. Absenteeism increased noticeably during the holiday season, as 20 percent of human resource professionals surveyed said December was the month of the year that tended to produce a high frequency of employees taking advantage of sick time.
Whether for legitimate or contrived reasons, absenteeism in the workplace can be a detriment to business owners' bottom lines. Introducing employee benefits systems to track absences may serve as a sufficient motivator for workers to further apply themselves.
