A new survey finds that many employees would be willing to give up some of their current salary if the opportunity afforded them greater flexibility with their schedule.

The poll, conducted by Harris Interactive for Mom Corps, found 42 percent of working adults would give up pay for greater flexibility. The most common reduction workers would take is 6 percent.

"The fact that employees of all ages are willing to give up any percentage of their salary in exchange for more flexibility over their work schedule is significant, especially given the economic climate and record unemployment," says Allison O'Kelly, founder and CEO of Mom Corps.

The survey also found more than 60 percent of working adults said flexibility was one of their top factors when looking for a job. More than 75 percent of working parents also said flexible options would cause them to stay with a company longer.

Flexible schedules may be employee benefits which can help human resource executives improve employee morale and retention while at the same time reducing costs. Those savings can then be carried over to other parts of the business.
