Social media can be useful for employers as they seek to attract talented workers, and this is particularly true for veterans.
At a recent webinar, military recruiter Lisa Rosser and Neil Costa, who works at a digital recruitment marketing agency, recently discussed the matter. Transitioning to civilian life after military service often leaves people inexperienced in job hunting and veterans may not know how to find or apply for the positions they qualify for. It is common for them to lack experience assembling resumes and performing similar tasks.
The result is that veterans may be easily missed despite being qualified or even more than qualified for a job, the Society for Human Resource Management suggests. These individuals may also be unaccustomed to the terminology used to describe jobs and other factors that come into play throughout the employment process.
As a result, employers may find that social media represents a middle ground where those used to civilian and military lives may meet and discuss employment more easily. Whether specifically seeking to employ veterans or not, organizations should also keep these factors in mind rather than expecting veterans to go through the recruitment process like everyone else.
